Pheonix's Tear Devlog

Hey everyone reading this devlog. Yellowchocobo here.

So, it's been a while since I posted the first demo of the game, and I was really happy that I received so much positive feedback. Thank you all. Plus I already have almost 140 followers! Wow! XD.

So I thought I should give some updates to those interested in my project. Here we go:

As for the story, I plan to rewrite everything, since the first build I managed to rewrite the texts and they are much better. I'm also working on immersion, which leads me to something I'm really happy with: I recently met an extraordinary composer, Azali. They said that I could use their music in the game, as long as I gave credit and didn't get anything from it of course. And, man... It's been a while since I've heard such lively music, I highly recommend checking out their YouTube channel or TikTok.

For the images, mainly the background ones, I'm working in a more drawing style, not real photos. I think that would go better with my story.

For the sprites, I plan on drawing them myself, as I can't afford to hire an artist. For that I'm working hard (in the little time I have) to improve my non-existent drawing skills ;-;.

Things you can perhaps expect from my project:

My story probably won't take more than a few hours to read. And the reading should be somewhat linear.

There will be at least three love interests for the protagonist, and I think 2 endings for each, plus a perfect ending and a bad ending. (I really hope I can do it ;-; ;-;)

Maybe in the very distant future I'll end up putting NSFW content, who knows. If it happens in the course of the narrative, it will be more suggestive and descriptive, probably visually, but maybe I'll change my mind.

Well, I think this is all for now. Feel free to give your feedback and pass Azali's channel, they are amazing.

At least three love interests in a few hours long visual novel seems… inadvisable. I’m not saying that you couldn’t develop those characters well in that situation, or that it would necessarily get in the way of whatever story you want to tell, but it looks like a surefire way of making your job considerably more difficult on those fronts.

I think limiting your scope when undertaking such a small project would be the best way to go to make the result better.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I understand your concerns about the number of characters in my visual novel. I'm aware that developing multiple love interests in a short period of time can be challenging, but I'm working hard to ensure that each character is well-developed and that their stories integrate cohesively.

Oh, and when I referred to 'a few hours to read', I was considering an average of 4 to 7 hours of reading on each route (Which I consider not to be much). If you have more insights or suggestions, I would be happy to hear them!
